Say "konichiwa" to Lots-o’-Huggin’ Bear!
You’d think that if anything made Lotso popular in Japan it would be the latest, thrilling Toy Story 3 trailer made specifically for that country. Turns out the bear has been overseas for quite a while and kids seem to love him!
Watch below for the vintage commercial (posted in response to its American counterpart) that proves there’s no language barrier to cute, err, kawaii:
In an attempt not to spoil new readers I decided to sound clueless above. Of course, we have reason to believe that this is all Pixar’s doing. Seriously, this stuff is great, though!
Related: Now that we’re on the topic of Japan, fans in the East should know that Lee Unkrich will make his first stop for the international Toy Story promotional tour in Tokyo!
What do you think about Pixar’s latest viral marketing strategy?

Kawaii!
Chigau chigau chigau dake do OMOSHIROI!
That’s wrong(three times) but it’s very interesting.
What does the commercial say (or attempt to say) in Japanese, Rey? I understand you speak the language fluently.
Sorry, this is a little late, but I had to show this video to a Japanese co-worker at work. She says kawaii like Fett101 wrote. Anyways translation:
Hug hug bear chan is a friend
Try to be friends with hug hug bear
Everyones number one friend
Fluffy
Cute
Very friendly
Always, anytime hug.
The bottom of the screen translated: hug hug bear chan.
This commercial made my day because it’s ‘zeitai nihon CM janai’: this commercial never happened in Japan.
That’s a pretty funny one, I guess someone dug it up in the Konishi Toy Museum archives… 😉
KAWAII DESU. shot
Would have been much more “real” if they fixed the anime still. It just doesn’t look like anything from that era.
