Looking for more Monsters University details before the next trailer? IGN had a first look at the film at a recent press event (at the University of Southern California, fittingly) where Disney and Pixar screened footage from both Monsters, Inc. 3D and the upcoming prequel. They recap the never-before-seen sequence below (beware of potential spoilers):
"After being kicked out of the scarer program at Monsters University, Mike and Sully realize they must set aside their rivalry and work together if they’re going to get back into the scarer program. The only way to do this is to join a fraternity, which in their case is Oozma Kappa, and eventually compete in The Scare Games. Alas, this ‘OK’ frat is far from OK. In a nod to underdog flicks such as Revenge of the Nerds and The House Bunny, Mike and Sulley quickly discover that their frat is for the very, very uncool kids.
First, there’s Don Carlton, a middle-aged monster who’s gone back to school after being laid off from his job. Then there are the twins Terry and Terri, a pair of squabbling Siamese twin monsters. Art is the equivalent of the ubiquitous dorm stoner, a ‘New Age philosophy major’ who doesn’t exactly scream effort. Finally, there’s Squishy, a nice blob who looks exactly as his namesake suggests. These outcasts refer to their frat house living room as ‘Party Central’ (and, no, it isn’t).
Mike and Sulley are less than impressed with their new frat brothers, and realize it’s pretty much up to them if Oozma Kappa is going to make it into the Scare Games. After retiring to their room, which is tiny and has bunk beds, Mike and Sulley investigate strange noises coming from the basement. They gingerly make their way downstairs where they discover their frat brothers, cloaked and their features discernible only by candlelight.
A creepy initiation ritual begins but is quickly interrupted by the lights being turned on, revealing the basement to be the laundry room. Squishy’s matronly mom calls downstairs to her son, revealing that the OK frat house is, in fact, Squishy’s mom’s house. She proceeds to do the laundry while the boys finish their initiation rite for Mike and Sully."
Production designer Ricky Nierva also teased the returns of some fan favorites from the original, including Randall, Fungus, Celia, Waternoose, and the Abominable Snowman.
Overall, it sounds like the movie has the potential to be one of Pixar’s funnier films, even if IGN notes the footage was a bit more childish than typical Pixar fare. Monsters University hits theatres on June 21, 2013.
Do you think MU will be hilarious or just derivative?

Not particularly excited about it. I’m sure it’ll be good but I just can’t seem to raise my enthusiasm.
Story doesn’t look too ground breaking right now but its a prequel so you know whats gonna happen, but how is it all gonna lead up to that? It also has a chance to be really really funny and, if Mike and Sullys relationship is done right, Heartwarming.
Looking forward to it!!
