As far as Pixar films go, Toy Story 3 is on top of the world!
We’re hearing some huge international news, but let’s begin with a couple of smaller announcements. This week, Buzz and Woody were able to secure $6 million dollars in North America for a domestic total of:
$396,387,342
Weekday Domestic: Monday through Thursday were almost identical, ranging from $830K to a little under a million dollars for a total of about $3.5 million.
Weekend Domestic: In its 8th weekend, Toy Story 3 grabbed the #9 spot with $3 million dollars. Saturday and Sunday both surpassed $1 million, leaving Friday behind with $877K. It’s safe to say that TS3 will reach the $400 million dollar mark in the next week.
International: Toy Story 3 probably won’t become the highest grossing animated film domestically, but it’s surely destined to take the top spot around the globe. Pixar’s 11th now stands at a hefty $498 million dollars (foreign) for a worldwide total of $895 million. Now that it’s well past Finding Nemo internationally, Toy Story 3 has officially become Pixar’s highest grossing film!
Awards: "OMFG!!!! TS3 won the Teen Choice Award for Best Animated Movie 2nite!!! LMAO!!!!!!" tweeted Lee Unkrich in response to his film’s Teen Choice Awards win. Pixar’s 11th dominated the ‘Choice Animated Film’ category.
Update: Actuals are in! ‘Weekend Domestic’ and ‘Awards’ edited.
Happy Birthday, Lee Unkrich! Your predictions?

TS3 in Japan is in second place in box office sales after Ghibli’s movie for the Aug. 7th-8th weekend. TS3 has been showing for five weeks. I was hoping TS3 take first, but the newest Ghibli movie, The Borrowers or Arrietty, has brand recognition or some marketing magic or maybe it’s a “pretty” film with its watercolors and the story is for the Japanese market. I mean there is Walt Disney Japan backing TS3 and WDJ has been around for twenty-eight years. Anyways, summer vacation ends August 31st for the Tokyo area, but where I live it ends August 25th, so look for more good sales news in Japan.
TS3 won the Teen Choice Award for favorite animated film! Congrats to Lee and the rest of the team.
^Oh, awesome! Just like Up from last year. What a pleasant surprise. 🙂
I love the image for this post. LOL
Gooooo Pixar!

Toy Story 3 won the Teen Choice Award!!!
Woops! Forgot to update — I’m on it!! ;D
1billion Worldwide is 99% locked. The UK and Japan is well on pace to combine for 200+mil USD. Factor in Mexico’s 60mil and other markets chipping in as we speak.
TS3 may not break the North American Animation Record by Shrek 2 or even match the attendance of Finding Nemo, but 1bil worldwide is arguably a bigger accomplishment. Though people can cite the 3D upcharge as an advantage that Toy Story 3 had, Nemo and Shrek were released at a time when CGI was more of a novelty and event. Both of them did not face crowded marketplaces like today’s CGI films do.
