Box Office Buzz: Where The Journey Has Taken Up

Box Office News UP

With this Box Office Buzz post I’m cutting to the chase.

Getting to the point from the beginning, here are this weekend’s estimates. Friday brought in an estimated $1,450,000, Saturday showed a minimal rise with $1,970,000 estimated and Sunday ended with $1,235,000. That brings Up’s cumulative gross to $273,775,000!

It seems there are drastically less theatres playing Up now, from a little under 4,000 to a little over 2,000. The daily grosses have dropped a lot, understandably of course with all of the Summer competition. But it’s been a great, hugely successful journey for Carl Fredricksen and company. One can come to the conclusion that Up will end somewhere around $280 million at the US box office which is nothing short of impressive. Can’t wait to see how it plays out internationally!

Right now Up stands as the 5th highest grossing animated film ever and 4th highest grossing CGI film. Pete Docter’s second masterpiece also has the title of 2nd highest grossing movie of the year and in the Pixar canon so far. As far as number 1 goes, it’s the #1 PG rated movie and 3D movie of the year! Just over a month ago I wouldn’t have guessed Up could come this far. I mean, I knew it was going to be successful, but I’m glad it blew away my expectations!

I hope to look back at Pixar’s 10th film’s success in future posts. Actuals coming soon!
