It was announced today via press release that the IMAX Corporation has struck a three picture deal with Disney.
The new agreement covers 2011 tentpole releases including Pixar’s upcoming Cars 2. Also slated to premiere in the larger-than-life format are Disney’s Pirates of the Carribbean: On Stranger Tides and Mars Needs Moms.
I’m not the least bit surprised by this announcement, in fact, I would have never thought that not taking the IMAX route was an option for Cars 2. Just imagine how amazing the film will look on the mega-screen — and in 3D. Brad Lewis’ directorial debut is set to drive into theatres on June 24th, 2011.
IMAX/Disney’s press release can be found here.
Have you seen Toy Story 3 in IMAX? How was it? It’s on my agenda.

Toy Story 3 was amazing in IMAX 3-D! So was Day & Night! I cant wait to see Cars 2 in the format.
I’m so glad they’re doing this! 🙂 I’m sure both Pirates and Cars2 will look amazing in IMAX!
According to several sites, John Lasseter is now directing Cars 2 full time.
