Woody’s Cars News Roundup

Pixar, Round-Ups, Toy Story, Toy Story 2

Posted by Thomas • May 11, 2006

Now its time for rootin’ and tootin’, piston pumping collection of Cars news from around the web.

First off Jerry from Cartoon Brew talks about what Cars and Cartoon Brew have in common, being the lettering in both Cartoon Brew’s and Cars’ logo was designed by animation historian Leslie Cabarga. The article says…

In addition to designing the original Brew logo, Leslie created the font, Magneto, that Pixar used for, not only its CARS logo, but the titles, ancillary signage (that appear within the film’s backgrounds) and merchandising material. Says Leslie:

“Pixar dutifully purchased Magneto (font piracy is a constant concern for type foundries just as DVD piracy is for film studios), a streamlined script, reminiscent of 1930s to 1950s automobile logos, from me more than a year ago. I have been thrilled seeing Magneto all over the place in Cars. Font designers always notice when our typefaces are used well, by talented designers, or badly by other designers, and Pixar has done a beautiful job with the Cars logo and titles.

Next up is another post from Jerry at Cartoon Brew, this time however, about the Cars Little Golden Book. It is available for $USD2.99 from Amazon.com. Definitley great for the kids and the adults. Be sure to have a look.

Now to Route 66 News that according to a press release….

BURBANK, Calif., May 9 /PRNewswire/ — The World Premiere of Disney/Pixar’s exciting new computer-animated feature, “CARS,” on Friday, May 26th at Lowe’s Motor Speedway at Charlotte, (N.C.) is a complete sell-out nearly one month before the event, with more than 30,000 fans racing to buy tickets, it was announced today (5/9/06) by Lylle Breier, senior vice president of worldwide special events for Buena Vista Pictures Distribution.

And lastly, also from R66N, this news release from McDonald’s on Wednesday says that…

…the fast-food chain would offere a collection of eight “highly detailed cars” from the Pixar “Cars” movie in kids’ meals beginning June 9, the date of the film’s wide release. The toys will be offered in Happy Meals until July 6.

And that covers pretty much all Cars news for the moment till I am just about to post about an exciting new piece of news which deserves a post of its own. Stay tuned.
