Woody's News Roundup (23/06/06)

News Pixar Round-Ups Toy Story Toy Story 2

Another Woody’s News Roundup is in order….

First up, I thought I would remind you all that tomorrow at the very cool website, StrutYourReel.com, Pixar animator, Victor Navone, the creator of the famous animated short ‘The Alien Song’, will be having a live Q+A there. And if you haven’t already, check out the interview with him.

In other Navone News, Victor has posted his interview on the Disney Channel at his blog.
Just a few funny notes that Victor points out…

# No, this is not really my office
# My eyes look all droopy because we shot this early in the morning
# In real life I don’t begin every sentence with “Well…”

Next up is Cartoon Brew points out that Rhett Wickham at LaughingPlace.com has cool report about what is going on at Walt Disney Feature Animation, and how John Lasseter is encouraging hand-drawn animation to make a return.

The report is that Lasseter first offered director Glen Keane the opportunity to re-tool Rapunzel for production as a traditional hand-drawn feature, if he so desired (pay attention to this unusually supportive and respectful offer of “a choice”), but Keane, who had done so much work in advancing and adapting current CG technology to get the look he wanted for his fractured fairy tale, felt committed to its production in CG. That was fine with Lasseter. Next up was Lasseter’s offer to directing and writing team Ron Clements and John Musker, currently at work penning the screenplay for The Frog Princess.

And also, pre-order your copy of Afterworks 2, from Amazon.com for $USD15.74. Just in case you aren’t aware of what the anthology of comics is about…

From the heart of today’s animation industry in E-Ville, California, new energy is pumped into the soul of the comics world with Afterworks 2! Presented here is pure passion on the page, stories too personal to be told in any other medium than comics, stories that touch a nerve and charm the soul. From fact based accounts of Falluja missile strikes to reinterpretations of classic myth, from Tokyo excursions to flights of fantasy, from brawlers to the Devil to hopelessly romantic musicians, this is untainted
storytelling that will be pulled off your shelf and reread time and again.

Afterworks, and Afterworks 2 were created by Pixar animators known as E-Ville Press
. Afterworks 2 is due for release on July 19 this year. I’m looking forward to it greatly!
Other works created by E-Ville Artists include, Rose and Isabel by Ted Mathot, Tales of Colossus by Mark Andrews, Little India by Sanjay Patel and Dumping Grounds by Louis Gonzales.

UPDATE: John Lasseter has won the Will Rogers Award at the Will Rogers Awards Evening on Friday in Albuquerque. John was unable to recive the award because he was on vacation in Europe. Dawn Welch, the owner of the Rock Cafe in Stroud, Okla., who served as an inspiration to Sally the Porsche in “Cars,” accepted the award for him.

Lasseter was given the honor because “Cars,” in the mere two weeks it has been in theaters, has already been proclaimed one of the 10 biggest things to ever happen to Route 66.

Jim Conkle, who served as master of ceremonies, told the audience at the Hotel Albuquerque after the announcement of the award that Lasseter was informed that he’d won it during the world premiere of “Cars” in North Carolina on May 26. “He got a couple of tears in his eyes,” Conkle said.

says Route 66 News. Congratulations John!
