Disney Mobile Ceases Wireless Operations

Disney News

This news does not directly concern Pixar, however, it does concern Pixar merchandise. Fifteen months after starting up, Disney Mobile, a Mobile Virtual Network Operator in the United States, will be ceasing its wireless operations. The announcement came on September 27, and the wireless operations will officially cease on December 31 this year.

The service operated on Sprint’s CDMA network in the US and was targeted at families with family friendly features on their mobiles.

We will continue to provide voice, messaging and the Family Center services through December 31, 2007. In addition, billing and care support will be available during that time. As of September 27, 2007, content and applications will no longer be available for purchase.

says the official announcement.

Existing customers have until November 30 to port their numbers to another carrier. This means that there will be no more Pixar ringtones, wallpapers etc. from Disney Mobile.

Thanks to PixarVixen for alerting me.
