Wow this is great! Thanks for posting this! I’ll have to spend quite a bit of time looking through all the concept art in the display.
I believe the maquettes are actually created with a 3D printer, so they are probably exact replicas of the final cg models. This is the same technique Pixar used to create the Toy Story zoetrope.
You sure about that? usually maquettes are sculptures used to base the on screen models on. their done first. and in the early days durring Toy Story they often used them to scan in to make modeling easier.Im not sure they do that as much these days, but your suggesting its the other way around with this?
And the maquettes pictured here are created with the 3D printer.
Man. Look at that! A most impressive display, I must say. So this is based in Walt Disney World in Florida? Do you know if there’s a similar collage of “Up” artifacts here in California?
Oh, wow, I didn’t expect people to get so technical.
And yes I do realize what a maquette is, I write these articles quickly and technicalities like that get by me.
I’m surprised there were little comments on the display itself and so much corrections. I mean, I took the time to post this and there’s not much anyone wants to say about the actual content…?
martini – My apologies, martini. I was pressed for time this morning and didn’t endeavor to follow the links you provided. Now that I’ve had an opportunity to properly swallow the overwhelming amount of content displayed I can confidently state that this stuff is as rich as gold. The models are magnificent, the artwork vibrant and intriguing, and the storyboards energetic and playful. Out of all of these, I particularly like the storyboards*; and, since we’re on the subject of artwork, I’ll say right now that some of those conceptual paintings look very “Miyazaki-esque” (which isn’t surprising) — at least, they do to me.
*I hope I’m not throwing any spoiler content out here, but I take it that the two children in the storyboards are Ellie and Carl as kids. Adorable designs. Heh.
Lovely collection. Thanks for sharing this with us, martini and Jason. =)
I for one love the maquette, model whatever they are of Carl and Russell, I wnat to see them in person.
thanks for posting 🙂
This is really cool – I wish I could see this display in person because there are so many sketches to look at. The art direction has Lou Romano written all over it. I can’t wait for this movie because of the amount of effort that’s obviously been put into the design of Up.
Thanks for the article, Martin! =)
I’m going to DHS soon, can’t wait to see this!
Ellie looks just how i imained her
im liking the concept art
very Lou romano
eeeek
im excited!!!!!!
