You can meet a Pixarian this week, as many of us have wanted; best of all it’s free of charge!
Effects Supervisor on Up, Gary Bruins, will be in Southern California this week, sponsored by the Visual Effects Society, to talk about behind the scenes work at Pixar. This event will be held at Gnomon School of Visual Effects in Hollywood on Thursday, August 13th. He’ll basically be focusing on "his experience of working on the film and what it took to make [it] special…" The presenation starts at 7:00 PM but a meet and greet session will be held an hour prior.
So whether you’re a fan or trying to break into the tech field, this is the talk for you! Although the event is completely free, organizers ask you not to bring any recording devices because of non-disclosure agreements.
If you’re in the area and want to attend, RSVP and learn more on the website as soon as possible.

I tried almost everything in my power to attend this — calling people left and right to see if they could take my work shift for that Thursday. Alas, my efforts proved to be but of no avail. Ah well. If anyone else had the opportunity to attend this event, I hope that you had a wonderful time!
Thanks for posting this up, martini!
