The comedian and actor George Carlin died yesterday at the age of 71. Carlin was well known as an anti-establishment icon. His edgy style and provocative material netted him some hassle with the FCC back in the late 70.But we at Pixar Planet will remember him best as the voice of Fillmore in Cars.

So, in Cars 2, there is one of two scenarios:
* Recast the role.
* Write Fillmore out.
???
This is really quite sad. RIP George.
This is quite sad. I certainly wasn’t expecting this. They could recast the role if they wanted to, or they could write him out of the script. With Toy Story 3, Slinky Dog has not been confirmed for the film since the voice-actors got announced in April. So, again, Fillmore could be recast – although I don’t have the slightest idea of who they’d hire to do him – or be written out. Well, we’ll just have to wait and see, won’t we?
But Filmore had some of the best lines in the entire film. “I’m telling you, man, every third blink is slower” (a line I repeat over and over) and the line about the oil companies having a hold on the government- simply great, true, and classic Carlin.
As for replacing him in Cars 2, this is more proof that it shouldn’t be done.
Although it is terrible that George Carlin died, I think that Tommy Chong could fill the Filmore role nicely. The fact that Cheech Marin is already attached to the Cars property makes this an even more interesting choice. I would think that not recasting this role would be very unfortunate for both fans of Cars and fans of Carlin.
