Inside Out gets emotional

Inside Out News Trailer

Joy 6There are many new new things to see in the second official trailer for Pixar’s June 2015 release, Inside Out. The plot, which concerns Joy (Amy Poehler) and Sadness (Phyllis Smith) getting booted out of headquarters in the mind of Riley (Kaitlyn Dias) is finally shown in this trailer. We get to see exactly how they’re separated from the other emotions, and those who have been unfamiliar with the movie’s synopsis have a better idea of what’s going to take place.

World Premiere! Pixar's 'Inside Out' Trailer 2

This trailer builds on the previous one which also showed the emotions in the mind of Riley’s parents (Diane Lane and Kyle MacLachlan), but with Joy and Sadness also present. If you remember, that first teaser played heavily on the film’s humor, revealing Riley’s emotional state with only Anger (Lewis Black), Disgust (Mindy Kaling), and Fear (Bill Hader) to navigate within headquarters.
Here we get to see the five emotions interact with each other. They all balance each other out, but of course, once Joy and Sadness are forced out, things become chaotic, and Riley becomes moody.
Pete Docter’s vision involves looking at the way emotions evolve through the tumultuous time of growing up. What’s most intriguing is how the memories work. They’re glowing yellow orbs and as Joy fondly notes, most of them are happy. Sadness it seems, has never had a chance to hold a memory, and once she does, it changes. Does the memory itself become sad? Is there something to be said about “holding” onto sad memories? It’s interesting that once the memory shifts, the other emotions panic, with a frantic Fear telling Joy to change it back. Soon after, some of the orbs scatter, and Fear shouts: “The core memories!” What could those core memories be? Joy manages to gather them all before she and Sadness are sucked up into a tube away from the others.
Some other  notable things in this trailer include Long Term Memory, a labyrinthine storage space of hundreds more memory orbs, Imagination Land (where you can spot Riley’s imaginary friend Bing Bong in the entrance), and Dream Productions, which not only resembles a movie studio, but Paramount pictures. Also, we finally get to hear Disgust speak! Each of the actors does a wonderful job with their respective characters, Lewis Black especially.
Inside Out will definitely be an intricate venture, with loads of details, colors, and innovative approaches to how the mind and emotions work. When the very first teaser debuted, accompanied by clips of previous Pixar films, the emotion was the main focus. Some are predicting that this will be unlike anything Pixar has done before, but that’s only to be expected. We do know for sure this movie will do what Pixar movies have always done: make us laugh, cry, and be joyful.
What are your thoughts on the new trailer? Any favorite scenes?
