John Lasseter To Be Feted at Sonoma

It is a big year this year for the Sonoma Valley Film Festival this year, and they are planning a big celebration for its 10th aniversary on April 11-15, but also in tribute to John Lasseter who is not only one of the regions most well-loved filmmakers, but he is also a big supporter of the film festival. This event, in which they will honor the “World’s Premier Storyteller” will take place on Saturday, April 14.

The Sonoma Valley Film Festival, which will host a special tribute to two-time Academy Award®-winning director John Lasseter, is pleased to announce today that the special tribute will be hosted by actor John Ratzenberger,-who has voiced characters in every one of Mr. Lasseter’s animated features. The tribute will honor Mr. Lasseter’s illustrious career at the upcoming 10th Anniversary Sonoma Valley Film Festival, which takes place April 11 – 15, 2007 in the heart of California wine country.

The live event, which will start at 6:15pm, will also include special guests such as Robin Williams, Bonnie Hunt, Cheech Marin, Tony Shaloub, Andrew Staton and Glen Keane.

The special day begins at 9 a.m. with a second performance of “The Pixar Story,” a new documentary by Academy Award-nominated director Leslie Iwerks. “The Pixar Story” has its world premiere screening at 6:30 p.m. Friday, April 13. The film features an insider’s look behind the gates and inside the artists’ cubicles and meeting rooms at the Emeryville studio. It recounts the genesis of the most creative and successful storytelling studio in history and includes interviews with many of Pixar’s top talents.

If you catch that premiere — and don’t want to see it again on Saturday — there’s a special big-screen presentation of Pixar’s first feature “Toy Story” at 9:15 a.m.

Also, co-director of the Pixar short One Man Band, Andrew Jimenez, will host screenings of Pixar shorts, including ones from the 80’s and an all new, never-before seen-film. Pixar’s Mark Andrews, Jim Capobianco, Ronnie Del Carmen and Jason Katz will host “Storytellers’ Panel” at 2 p.m. and they will talk about the lengthy process involved in creating memorable films.
