The good news, Trailer Addict has a new video featuring Michael Giacchino talking about composing the Up soundtrack.
He says he only composes for films that truly move and inspire him, no wonder since he’s dne The Incredibles, Ratatouille, Star Trek, the Oscars and more! Up is his 3rd feature film with Pixar (he’s done shorts too) and this interview let’s you in on why he sticks around with some minor spoilers discussed. The bad news can be found after the video which you can watch below:
Alright, the bad news. The Pixar Blog is reporting that Disney confirmed there will be NO physical CD for Up: The Soundtrack. Disappointing news for fans of Pixar, collectors of their soundtracks (this is their 10th) and fans of Michael Giacchino.

Did you enjoy the interview with the hugely talented composer, and after watching that, how do you feel about the unfavorable announcement?

I’m quite disappointed that there is going to be no physical release of the CD. Why not just release it in limit quantities? Michael Giacchino is one of the hottest composers of the moment, so I would have thought many people would buy the Up soundtrack. ??? Maybe we will luck out and the CD will be on sale in Europe…
this is just sad….i hate how things are turning out to be nowadays
c’mon disney, take a risk!
Nice interview. I love how Mr. Giacchino related the chronological progression of the music throughout the years — from the 20s to the present day — to that of Carl’s life.
“The Pixar Blog is reporting that Disney confirmed there will be NO physical CD for Up: The Soundtrack.”
I am so pissed….
This makes me sick.
Although, the interview was nice. 🙂
Will they put the songs onto iTunes? I can get that.
They may have it on iTunes as the previous albums… now I don’t think anything is guaranteed lol. Stupid Disney.
I really don’t understand this move, especially concerning the hard work that was put into previous soundtrack releases.
Michael Giacchino’s soundtracks really stand out with their hand-made feel and a decent dynamic range.
To whoever is in charge at Disney/Pixar: please reconsider and release a physical CD.
Or, if you want to go downloads-only, at least offer a lossless version.
This is something that only niche-labels like Linn Records have been doing so far, but I think the major labels have to follow sooner or later.
And this looks like a good place to start.
If we’ll only get this in lossy MP3, AAC or (heaven forbid) WMA format, then I won’t buy the soundtrack, although
it’s sad to have a gap like that in my music collection…
WHY!?!!
stupid disney for not releasing this on cd!!! i love the music!!!
