Today, April 15th, 2009 (which was yesterday in Japan technically), the highly anticipated and hyped ride, Monsters, Inc. Ride & Go Seek! premiered at Tokyo Disneyland!
Monsters is the first new ride to open in 5 whole years at TDL, which celebrated it’s 26th anniversary that same day! Bloggers have been buzzing about Ride and Go Seek’s design because, although it has similarities to Monsters, Inc. Mike and Sulley to the Rescue in Disney’s California Adventure, it is much more sophisticated and interactive. The dark ride takes you on a tram tour through Monstropolis, armed with flashlights, where the events of the 2001 movie happen right in front of you and on every turn. The attraction cost an outstanding 10 billion yen (100 million dollars), but it was worth it, because on it’s opening, hundreds of people queued to experience the brand new ride!
Fun Fact: The last ride to open at Tokyo Disneyland was also based on a Disney•Pixar film, Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters, which was cloned in 2004!
Update: You can also read an article about the ride over at D23 where Creative Director for Theme Parks at Pixar, Roger Gould talks about what went into making the ride.
If you’re planning to visit Tokyo Disneyland, I hear Monsters, Inc. Ride & Go Seek!, and the whole park in general, is a really nice treat! You can visit the official website here.
