collectSPACE has more news on Buzz Lightyear’s trip into space. The article talks about John Lasseter with his introduction of Toy Story Midway Mania at DCA and how Lasseter explained Buzz couldn’t make it because he was in real outerspace.
It was then that they looked onto a video of Buzz floating alongside NASA astronaut, Greg Chamitoff in the International Space Station.
"They approached me with the idea of what do you think about having Buzz actually go up in space and I’m like, ‘Are you kidding?!?’" said Lasseter, reenacting his pose, with his mouth wide open. "You mean we can actually do this?"
