LaughingPalace.com via The Disney Blog reports that Pixar’s next film is titled… (Highlight to read)
This film will follow Ratatouille due for release next year on June 27.
TDB says…(Highlight to read missing text)
Quick Batman to the Google cave. A search reveals Wal-e.com is the website of a printing company. However, a post on Newsarama claims artist Bruce Zick is working on a W.A.L.-E film at Pixar. So there’s some validation there.
TDB also ponders on the thought if this film is the rumored sci-fi script they’ve been working on?
Hopefully we will hear more in the coming days.

/me wonders why we are whispering
we are whispering because some people dont like to be spoiled hehehehe.
Great news Luxo Jr. ! Hopefully we’ll know very soon what exactly this is about and who is directing it.
Wow, I feel like I’m dreaming! This news is making my head spin. I can’t wait to hear more information about this!
Thanks, Luxo Jr. What is this about exactly? Well, we’ll probably see a teaser trailer for this on June 29 when we see Ratatouille.
It should be interesting. Wikipedia among other Pixar movie links tends to favor Toy Story 3 as being the next movie after Ratatouille. I thought it might be “Ray Gun”, but apparently there are copyright issues involved.
Lasseter mentioned in a past interview that Pete Doctor (Monsters Inc.)and Andrew Staton (Finding Nemo)are both hard at work on their next films.
I am wondering when Pixar/Disney will go to two movies a year.
Hopefully NEVER. Two movies a year would downgrade the quality!
I prefer the movie every two years instead!
But Oh THANK GOD IT’S NOT TOY STORY 3!!! I don’t mind a third TS film, but not after three-four years of production!!
Great find, Luxo!!
I think Pixar are going to keep to the movier every 2 years cycle for a long time as to keep quality control and keep us supporters hungry for more. The way Disney markets Pixar movies and how they have become huge part of our culture, I think Disney needs 2 years to recover from it all heehehe.
It probably could be Pete Doctor and Andrew Stanton.
As for Wikipedia favouring TS3 for coming after Ratatouille they are CLEARLY wrong and I have changed them a couple of times because….
1. Toy Story 3 was announced recently and I don’t think Pixar would put a movie under a 2 year treatment just for the sake of the public wanting it.
2. Victor Navone has said on his blog that he is already at work on the film after Ratatouille and that would mean this film. He said this before TS3 was announced.
3. John Lasseter is WAY to busy at the moment to be working on TS3. He has to sort things out at Disney.
I think we will see TS3 in 2010+
In a quarter conference call last year Pixar said that they were hoping to announce 3 new films after Cars at around Christmas. Although this never happened we can see that one of them is ratatouille (2007), another is the W.A.L.-E (2008/09) and another one in production that has yet to be announced (2009/10), then TS3 as it was only handed over to Pixar to be done recently (2010/11)
That is my reasoning.
Luxo,
I have to agree with you. In regards to the Doctor and Stanton films respectively, they have been working on their projects literally for years-since their other films were completed (Monsters Inc. and Nemo), so to say that they are rushing or compromising their integrity by putting out two films a year is in error. From my understanding this has long been a Pixar goal-to produce more than one feature film a year. My recollection is that they wanted to put out two a year starting in 2008 or in 2009 (this was based on a comment from Jobs-prior to the Disney aquisition).
We got a huge debate (well, not huge . . . just Dash & I really) about future PIXAR distribution.
I agree with Luxo Jr. — two films in two years with a year break in between.
I have just found out that a petition for a 2-disc Cars DVD with more bonus features is on Pixar Planet. I know most of you were upset about this, so here’s the chance for you to get what you have wanted. Sign it if you haven’t already.
Yeah, most of us have signed it allready (I’m 233 or something), but it never hurts to bring it up again!
Have I missed something that says they are never releasing a 2 disc?
Not sure I understand the point of that petition.
As far as I was aware there was a one disc coming out soon and probably a two disc later.
The problem being we woudl rather JUST have the two disc rather than have to pay for a one disc now and then fork out dosh again later for a two disc…
Did *I* misunderstand?
The first question I have about W.A.L.-E, assuming we would pronounce that “Wally” is would there be any connection or homage in that which referrs back to “Andre and Wally Bee” -the first computer animated short that Lasseter worked on with the software pioneers who were to leave Lucasfilm and found Pixar? As I like to think of it, the Pixar short from before Pixar was Pixar.
As for whether Pixar ever had plans to go to more than one feature a year, that’s news to me, but I seem to recall having heard years ago that they wanted to work on weekly shows for TV. Can anyone else even confirm that they’ve heard this rumor? Isn’t Dreamworks branching out in that direction now with a series about lions in a Las Vegas zoo?
As for the whispering, I don’t think it hurts to have some expectations about what they have in production, but I do want make sure I don’t learn too much about the central conflict and turning point in “Rattatoullie” because I susupect that it was having heard too much about “Cars” that made it seem kind of predictable.
Shine, you have not REALLY misunderstood. Just to clarify, PIXAR fans are deeply disturbed (or disturbed to some extent) that we are now seeing an initial meager DVD release, where for the last 6-7 years we have seen DVD releases full of special features and in most cases, in BOTH formats!
That’s why we are so surprised that we’re seeing a single-disc DVD — I bet we are all expecting a 2-disc to come later, but the petition is our way of saying that this most-likely attempt at “double-dipping” will go sour, as we will all wait for the 2-disc edition to come out . . . no matter how long it takes.
That’s how I perceived this petition. Hopefully it makes more sense and didn’t confuse you more!
Then why not have a petition saying you DON’T WANT a one disc at all – rather than wasting effort saying you want a two disc?
By all accounts I have seen it is totally expected that there will be a two disc, so why ask for one?
It is also interesting that the domain walemovie.com (sorry, comments won’t let me hide the text) was created and registered by Disney Enterprises on April 20th 2006. The website doesn’t go anywhere yet but I’m sure it will eventually.
Indeed that is interesting. I was just looking at that on saturday. I also tried http://www.wal-emovie.com but some guy registered that on saturday. As Disney could have registered WAL-EMovie.com, they didn’t. So I am guessing its all WALE for what it means if you catch my drift.
I also looked into other domains to see how far Disney have gone, I did http://www.toystory3.com and that wasn’t registered by Disney but registered to someone in Emeryville with an email address that has the word pixar in the name part.
On Wikipedia, they have W.A.L.-E after Ratatouille now, then Toy Story 3, then after that, Monsters, Inc. 2.
Right now, I’m at the point where this seens highly unlikely. What’s your perspective on this?
Well its all fine till they put Monsters Inc 2 after TS3. That just probably wouldnt be right. I mean Pixar have said that they would do another sequel if there was there story for it needing to be told. And two sequels in a row. I don’t think thats like them. Pixar have said that they would prefer to do new stuff and that is what i see them doing.
I registered http://www.wal-emovie.com on saturday. I’m sure Disney would have done so had it been the title but I can’t help thinking ‘wal-e’ is more likely than ‘wale’ given that you can pronounce the former as ‘wally’ (which is itself a pixar reference) and you can only pronounce ‘wale’ as, well, wale.
I’ve found out that Rich Moore (previosly a director on The Simpsons, one of my all-time favorite shows) is working on a film at PIXAR. Is it possible he’s directing W.A.L.-E ?
Just if anyone is wondering, here is a list of people at The Simpsons who have gone on to work at PIXAR.
1. David Silverman
2. Brad Bird
3. Jim Reardon
4. Rich Moore
5. Kevin O’Brien
