MTV News spoke with John Lasseter recently who has confirmed that Slinky Dog from the Toy Story series will be replaced by "an old friend of [Varney’s] who sounds an awful lot like him". Slinky was voiced by the late Jim Varney, but he’s not the only Pixar star that’s passed away recently.
You may remember that Paul Newman died this past September (the second Cars cast member to pass away before Cars 2). John Lasseter didn’t have a solid answer when asked if he would be in Cars 2 at all, but said it all depends on the story, same goes for Fillmore, the hippie VW bus character played by the late George Carlin.

I really could care less how Cars 2 goes…but I would be overjoyed if it is cancelled.
Wait a minute- MTV is taking an interest in upcoming PIXAR movies, and asking about an old actor like Paul Newman?
Well, I guess since Britney and Lindsay have stopped trying to draw attention, they are really trying to fill news space.
man…poor slinky. His voice will be sorely missed. Hopefully they will find someone close to his voice to replace him.
Wow. I thought that they just might omit Slinky from the story completely, but I guess not….
I look forward to hearing how Jim Varney’s friend matches up to the character. Nevertheless, I will miss Mr. Varney, as he was my favorite of the original “Toy Story” cast.
