The WALL•E "El Capitan" Experience

Disney News WALL-E

Written by Brad Bradbury

Amid the Hollywood hustle and bustle, nestled among the stars on Sunset Boulevard the El Capitan Theatre delivers a complete Disney/Pixar movie going experience. Through August 27th guest at the theatre can enjoy a digital projection of "WALL•E" in the majestic theatre. The theatre screams of Hollywood history and has its own history display on the balcony level, showing images of the glory days with Will Rogers, Clark Gable, and Orson Wells. All the red carpet glamour is here with a Spanish exterior dome entrance and amazing crisscross patterns of the East Indian interior.

Before the film is the rare treat of a live stage show. "Disney’s Flight of Fantasy" projects film clips of favorite scene from Disney and Pixar films. The live show involves a cast of characters including Buzz and Woody, Mr. Incredible, Mike Wazowski, Aladdin and Mickey Mouse himself. The crowd I was with exploded into yells like it was a live rock concert when Buzz and Woody danced a number onstage. This is full scale, harmless entertainment combined with just can’t contain it six year old glee.
Throughout the WALL•E theatrical showings, the entire theatre is space themed, planets adorn thee walls and ceilings, a giant inflatable WALL•E sits above the famous marquee, and even the ATM machine is disguised with a star filled galaxy background. The theatre currently houses a complete space exploration display of models of robotic vehicles designed by NASA for missions to the moon and Mars. Models of the Mars Pathfinder, the Phoenix, and the Mars Odyssey are included in the display. The presentation by NASA and the Jet Propulsion Laboratories connects science fiction with scientific reality as folding solar panels, hydraulic arms, and rough terrain tread systems of the robotic explorers are reflected in the robots of WALL•E
The complete WALL•E movie experience ends at the Disney’s Soda Fountain and Studio Store right adjacent to the theatre. The soda fountain has a great variety of delicious looking treats. The Dewar’s ice cream is California grown and has a unique twist to the ingredients. The special of the month is the "WALL•E sundae", a dessert that resembles the robot hero with brownie treads, two scoops of ice cream and a molded chocolate neck and eyes.
The El Capitan Theatre brings back the nostalgic notion of seeing a motion picture back to becoming an "event" and gives a complete Hollywood style theatre experience to any Disney and Pixar fan.
