What goes through the mind of a character designer at Pixar?
Artist Nate Wragg shared insight into some of the work that he did for Toy Story 3 in a recent blog post. His thoughts accompany stunning illustrations (dozens!) of the series’ new additions.
It’s interesting to see how closely the final character models came to Wragg’s original designs. You’ll find early takes on Mr. Pricklepants, Stretch, Dolly, Buttercup, Chuckles and even some characters that didn’t make it into the film. If you don’t already own the "Art of…", you’re just getting a taste here.
To learn more about Nate, check out the interview that we conducted with him back in 2008. I’m not sure if he’s with Pixar at the moment, but I know you’ll also enjoy browsing through his blog to see more of his excellent artwork.
Your thoughts? Any favorite pieces?

This is my dream job creating characters for Pixar movies I really like Stretch’s designs
Interesting how there’s different versions of the “Garbage Man”
I came across these last Sunday as well;
Not sure if I’ve stumbled upon anything else others might be interested in.
Not as interesting as Daniel Arriaga or Bob Pauly’s work from the book, but ok.
Maybe I’m biased, but I love all the little drawings of Dolly. Interesting that he based her design off his wife when she was young- always cool to see the background behind character designs. Stretch is also very cute with his little sailor hat.
