Toy Story 3 Is a Go!

News Pixar Toy Story

Variety via ComingSoon has reported that the long anticipated Toy Story 3 is set for 2009, however this time around, John Lasseter won’t be directing it due to commitments as chief creative officer at Disney and Pixar. Instead, Toy Story 2 co-director, Lee Unkrich, will be at the helm, in his first solo-directing job. This news was unveiled in “…an unusually candid presentation from the typically tight-lipped execs,…” at Walt Disney’s Investor Conference on Thursday.

“The greatest thing about the merger of the two companies is that the creators of ‘Toy Story’ 1 and 2 can make 3 with the story that we wanted.”

said Lasseter.

Clips from Ratatouille, Wall-E and Toy Story 3 were shown at the conference also reports the Scotsman.

The script for the moving is being penned by Oscar-Nominee Michael Arndt, who also penned the script for Little Miss Sunshine. As for the plot, nothing has been announced, however…

On the Ultimate Toy Box DVD set, Lassetter mentioned that an intended story line for Toy Story 3 was to follow Andy’s toys after Andy had grown up and abandoned them. Buzz, Woody, and the rest of Andy’s old toys would end up in an orphanage at the conclusion of the story, where the constant arrival of new children would mean that they would never be outgrown.
