Toy Story 3: The Video Game Opens a Toy Box Full of Possibilities! [UPDATE]

"The ongoing development of the Toy Story 3 game has continued to amaze me" raved Lee Unkrich on the upcoming tie-in game.

According to the latest press release from Disney Interactive Studios, its subsidiary Avalanche Software has been working with Pixar to "create an authentic Toy Story experience." For starters, that includes a Story Mode which replicates the toy’s struggles as Andy leaves for college and their fate unfolds.

But what’s unique about Toy Story 3: The Video Game is that it includes a first for Disney games: Toy Box mode. Players will be able to play with Woody, Buzz, Jessie and the rest of the gang in an "open-world" environment through non-movie specific scenarios. I’m not usually excited for movie tie-in games but the free roaming, imagine-it-yourself features sound very appealing.

Toy Story 3: The Video Game will be available on all major platforms, each with distinct variations, starting June 15th, 2010. You can pre-order the video game now over at Disney Store. Also on the way are mobile versions of the game including an iPhone app.

Update: Apparently some shots from the proposed Toy Story 3 game by THQ have made their way online. THQ’s deal with Disney/Pixar ended with Up and all their games (starting with TS3) will be handled in-house. Check out the posters on Andy’s wall…

Will you invest in a copy of Disney/Pixar’s latest tie-in video game?

I don’t know if I will, I’m a pretty big gamer and games based off of movies usually aren’t that good. I happen to have an Xbox 360 so knowing me I’ll rent it or request it from someone as an end of school year present to get some gamerscore added.

The toy box mode sounds interesting, I would like to see what they pull off on it. 🙂

Personally, I think the DS version will have slightly different gameplay, because I have Up for the DS and PC and I assure you that TS3 for DS will be a bit different.

I have played Toy Story 2 on PC and although it was frustrating at times, I managed to beat the game, but not until I grew older lol.

I hope it’s like the toy story 2 game where you played as Buzz on those different missions…that was awesomeness 😀 except maybe this time you play as woody.
