What's UP at the Oscars?

Academy Awards News UP

The marketing campaign for Up is getting even more interesting with yet another great place to premiere a trailer locked in, the Oscars!

Advertising Age is reporting just that.
The Academy has a history of banning movie ads from their telecast to prevent suspicion of a rigged competition, but with the economy as it is and a sudden change in policies, this rule is no more. The conditions to air an ad during the 81st Annual Academy Awards are very strict, the ad must not mention the Awards, must not be a sequel to a movie that was nominated for an Oscar last year and the studio can only choose one movie to promote. Of course, Disney has chosen Up which is also the first movie to have signed to premiere a trailer. There are rumors for one other trailer from Paramount and a few other studios are eyeing the spots which are relatively cheap.

I think the Oscars broadcast is one of the perfect places to promote a movie, especially if WALL•E wins a few awards (and it will.) This will make Up look that much more special, and from what we’ve heard, it sure is! Read the full story from Advertisement Age here.

Note: Remember to watch the SuperBowl this year where we’ll be seeing a new TV spot for Up.
