Due to popular demand, Up Weekday Box Office is back!
This will be the last post of it’s kind for Up because at this point next week it should be making thousands as opposed to millions. And what a run it has been! It’s almost up to $270 million, a number analysts wouldn’t have dreamed of considering they saw a "trend" of lower box office grosses with each Pixar movie, even deeming Disney’s Pixar purchase a bad move.
Of course, this is ridiculous considering it’s been an upwards trend since Ratatouille; let’s not even get into international numbers. Pete Docter’s second film is the 2nd highest grossing Pixar film, on top of that, adjusted to inflation Up is still doing phenomenal! Here are this week’s numbers, updated daily:
Monday: $1,035,142
Tuesday: $1,180,545
Wednesday: $1,085,003
Thursday: $1,001,631
Cumulative: $268,117,384
Notes and Predictions: Thursday should end right below $270 million and the weekend should bring in about $3-5 million. It’s hard to tell now with Ice Age 3. The sequel to Blue Sky’s franchise isn’t doing all that well, especially for a sequel, but it is biting a big chunk out of Up. Mostly because of demographics and 3D screens. It’s also of note that this week Up will pass Shrek’s domestic gross making it the 5th highest grossing animated film ever! I’m pretty sure Pixar is happy with how their 10th blockbuster in a row performed!
International: We’ll bring you a more detailed breakdown of the foreign take when we get it. Sorry!
Keep checking back for updates!

Amazing feat by Pixar, but the story won’t be concluded until late in the year when it opens in Japan. Can’t wait to see the numbers around Christmastime. There will never be an analyst in Japan who says ‘…people won’t relate to a senior citizen’.
