The nominations for the 66th Annual Golden Globe Awards have been announced and WALL•E is in the running for two.
WALL•E‘s first nomination is in the ‘Best Animated Feature Film’ category. It is up against Bolt from Disney and Kung Fu Panda from Dreamworks Animation. It is of note that WALL•E is ineligible for a Best Picture nod because it has been nominated in the animation category.
The second nomination is for "Down to Earth", Peter Gabriel and Thomas Newman’s song from the end of the film, in the ‘Best Original Song – Motion Picture’ category. It is up against "Gran Torino" from Gran Torino, "I Thought I Lost You" from Bolt, "Once In A Lifetime" from Cadillac Records and "The Wrestler" from The Wrestler.

Update: Andrew Stanton (among other nominees) talks to the Hollywood Reporter about his reaction to this year’s Golden Globes.
Update 2: Stanton also talks to the Associated Press about the Golden Globes.
This isn’t too big a deal, but just to be picky, I think WALL-E was ineligible for Best Picture not because it is animated, but because movies, according to the HFPA’s rules, cannot get nominated for BOTH Best Picture and Best Animated Feature (there is a difference). In other words, WALL-E could have been nominated for Best Picture, but if that had happened, it wouldn’t be eligible for a Best Animated Feature nomination.
If I’m not mistaken, the same goes for foreign language films (notice that Waltz with Bashir wasn’t nominated in the Animated Feature category because it’s already been nominated in the Foreign Language category – something similar happened to Persepolis last year if I remember correctly).
I’ve clarified the article.
