Woody’s News Round-Up! (01/31/11)

Who can keep their mind in the present when we’re always looking forwards and backwards in time?

Why do I bring this up? The stories that follow focus on Pixar’s celebrated achievements of 2010 and give us a taste of an upcoming 2012 project… Enjoy!

Lee Unkrich at Animated Oscar Symposium: Meet Toy Story 3 director Lee Unkrich at the Academy‘s Oscar Nominated Animated Features Symposium on February 24. Also featuring directors Chris Sanders, Dean DeBlois (How to Train Your Dragon) and Sylvain Chomet (The Illusionist), this is shaping up to be an evening that fans of the medium won’t want to miss! Click for details.

Shorts! with Teddy Newton: Day & Night director, Teddy Newton, will make an appearance at an Oscar Nominee symposium as well, appropriately titled "Shorts!" Nominees in both the live-action and animated short form competition are all expected to be in attendance on Feb. 22. Click for details.

A Preview of Pixar’s 2012 Short: Although it may not be an image or a clip, Day & Night producer Kevin Reher spoke to Animation World Network about the short film that will be attached to Brave in theatres—

"It’s funny, the new film we’re finishing production on now, which will be attached to Brave in 2012, it’s three characters and two sets, and man, how easy it is. It’s different, there’re no gags… It’s beautiful, it’s lyrical, it’s very different from all the other ones. It’s amazing how easy it can be when you just have 3 characters and 2 sets."  [via Pixar Times/AWN]

Can’t wait to see what he means by that! Read the full interview with Teddy Newton and Kevin Reher here.

Three charectors and two sets? I’m confused about that but I’m looking foward to seeing Brave next year

That upcoming short sounds most interesting. As for the Symposium, I had completely forgotten about it until you mentioned it, so thanks for reminding me!

    Thanks for the update, Martin!
