The first of what’s sure to be a long legacy of Toy Story Toons has been revealed— Hawaii!
Pixar might not be so happy about it, though.
You’ve met Floyd Norman before, the veteran Disney and Pixar animator that always seems to let things slip. Here’s what he tweeted recently:
"Saw the Pixar "Hawaii" short. Cute."
…followed by a description,
"Ken and Barbie want to go to Hawaii. I don’t know what it’s gonna be attached to. Fun stuff, however."
The forums were abuzz about a short entitled Dream Vacation a while back. It’s easy to assume that Hawaii is the aforementioned short and that it will, in fact, be attached to Cars 2.
Lee Unkrich confirmed that a Toy Story short would precede Pixar’s high-octane sequel earlier this year. No director (or official details, for that matter) has been revealed since.
Your thoughts?

Norman is not a “veteran” of Pixar. He’s got a big mouth, and anything he says ought to be taken with a very large grain of salt. He’s a terrific self promoter, though.
Depends on how you see it, he did work on Toy Story 2 and Monsters, Inc. before retiring. I do agree, he has a big mouth. But he is a veteran animator who’s worked on various Disney AND Pixar classics. That’s a fact.
Isn’t this just the short that was made for the Toy Story 3 DVD, and held back? There was a story here on this site when the features for TS3 were announced, and the usual “new cartoon” was held back; at the time it was said to go in front of Cars 2.
Yes, this is it. We just didn’t know the title or story— only that it would be a Toy Story short.
AWESOME!!!! I hope there’s Toy Story shorts for years….but hopefully not only Ken and Barbie, you gotta have Buzz and Woody too.
This is a shame if it’s true, the shorts are usually brave in their originality. Cars 2 already struck me as a lazy sequel, this just kind of confirms it.
Kawai! 🙂
i see more catoon in the http://www.book-wholesale.com
Anonymous #3— I think this is a holdover short and not some lazy move, as you put it. 😉
