Yet another opportunity to visit the beautiful Pixar campus has arisen, better yet, it includes a preview screening of Up.
The Piedmont Educational Foundation is holding a fundraiser at the world famous Pixar Animation Studios in Emeryville, California. The event will be held on May 2nd, 2009 at 6:00 PM and will be hosted by the Docter family including director Pete Docter himself! Tickets cost $275 per person and includes admition, the screening (starting at 7:30), wine tasting, a light supper and a silent auction.
You can buy your tickets here or call 510-653-1816 to buy admition offline. Spots are given at a first come, first serve basis, and space is limited, so get your tickets now if you’ll be in the area and plan to attend!

Speaking of Pete Docter, David S. Price points out a surprising parallel in his latest article on his blog, The Pixar Touch, pertaining to the director of Pixar’s 10th film. Pete Docter’s Student Academy Award winning short film which he made at CalArts, Next Door, starred a square headed man and an annoying child, just like Up!
If you didn’t already know, The Pixar Touch is a blog by the author of the (very informative and well-written) book The Pixar Touch: The Making of a Company. Check it out!

The parallel between his short film and current film isn’t as surprising you’d think. Pete mentioned his film in one of his interviews and I suspected a connection: the screenplay I’ve been working on began as a short film and similarly evolved into a monster.
You’ve got to love the creative process and its ever surprising manifestations.
