The last time we left off with box office reports, Up was a humongous domestic hit of $290+ million dollars!
As the numbers in the USA come to a relative halt (after multiple months in megaplexes) our attention is shifting to worldwide revenue as reflected by THR‘s wonderful report. Most international fans are (unfortunately) aware that Disney/Pixar tends to (mega) delay releases in foreign countries to coincide with school or national holidays. That’s why rolling out a movie like Up around the globe takes until December to complete.
This can come to the advantage of Disney/Pixar as their films tend to be extremely successful overseas as well. For example Pete Docter’s latest is the #1 movie worldwide this week for the first time even though it’s releases are so far apart. Big numbers are coming in from France with $36.3 million, $6.7 million from Brazil, $8.3 million from Australia and $32.4 million from Spain making Up the highest grossing animated movie in all of the latter country!
And the Up foreign total is: $197.4 million!
Bringing Up to a worldwide total of about: $488 million!
Almost $500 million and it hasn’t even been releases in key markets such as the UK, Scandinavia, Turkey, Poland and of course, Japan! These countries are expected to bring in an extra 50% revenue, by the way! It’s also expected that Up will surpass WALL•E’s $310 million and Ratatouille’s $415 million foreign tally.
Stay tuned for more in worldwide box office updates as big announcements come.

Barely over half what Ice Age 3 has made…I’ll never understand that. WW Total for Ice Age 3 is 870 million and climbing—and made for half the budget of Up.
OMG!
Wow, how exciting!! It’s really cool to know Up is doing so well financially, and critically, too!

Anonymous #1- I wouldn’t really worry about it, just imagine how much money Toy Story 3 is going to make. It’s understandable that IA3 (a sequel to a well known franchise) would make so much money overseas but the point is Up is an original film that isn’t close to finishing it’s international run and has made over $290 million dollars in the US box office. An ORIGINAL film!! 😀 Just wait ‘til Toy Story 3 and Cars 2 roll out… There’s no guarantee they’ll be good (I’m sure they will be though) but I can guarantee that they’ll be breaking records.
Mega delay is right! I’m still waiting for it to come out in the UK! What’s so frustrating is Disney doesn’t delay it’s crappy films by nearly so much – That Guinea Force film and some of those tween boy band things have come and gone in the mean time. I hope Disney has the sense not to delay Toy Story 3 by so much – it’s such an anticipated film they could lose literally millions to video piracy.
