Cars 2 Jets to Japan: Lightning McQueen (voice of Owen Wilson) and Mater (voice of Larry the Cable Guy) take their friendship to exciting new destinations when McQueen is tapped for the first-ever World Grand Prix to determine the world’s fastest car. First stop, Tokyo, Japan—where ancient tradition meets modern technology. But like a modern-day Samurai, Mater must play the part of a top-secret spy when he’s unknowingly embroiled in a case of international espionage.
Passport to Paris: There’s no place in the world like Radiator Springs, but Paris comes close! Lightning McQueen and Mater venture abroad for the first-ever World Grand Prix. While McQueen focuses on the races, his best friend Mater hits a few detours. International espionage, anyone? On his top-secret mission, Mater takes the scenic route and manages to see the Parisian sights—including the Eiffel Tower, Arc de Triomphe and the famous car-goyles of Notre Dame.
Cars 2 Goes Global: Star racecar Lightning McQueen heads overseas next summer to compete in the first-ever World Grand Prix to determine the fastest car on the planet. McQueen and his best friend Mater make a pit stop in London, but there’s no time for tea when an international spy plot entangles Mater, and McQueen must race before royalty.
To the Big Screen — and Beyond: It’s an international feast of epic proportions when star racecar Lightning McQueen and lovable tow truck Mater travel to Porto Corsa, Italy, for the first-ever World Grand Prix. The pair will have to bypass the Italian Riviera’s specialties—boating, beaches and pasta al pesto—as Mater is detoured on a top-secret spy mission and McQueen must race to win against the world’s best!
Cars 2 drives into theatres in Digital 3D and IMAX 3D on June 24th, 2011!

Not promising at all. I don’t like how they are describing the plot of the film. It’s seems too spy-centric which I hoped the movie didn’t focus on too much. After reading that, this film seems like it’s going to be a mediocre hit. Nothing too special. Hopefully it’s better than the first, I don’t know how critics will react when they watch this movie.
Above post made by azzstar, Ii don’t know why it posted as anonymous even when I’m signed in.
Sounds like they’re making Mater the star.
Doesn’t sound good.
Psh, still sounds awesome.
I remember all those negative comments before the first Cars came out, and then how ludicrous they all seemed to me when I saw the movie! I’m sure CARS 2 it’s going to be a SUPERB movie!
xCarsLuverx=Anti-Mater,but Lightning’s racing does sound intresting….
I’m not too sure about the emphasis on Mater, but hey, if anyone can pull it off, it’ll be Pixar and I think they learned from their mistakes. I look forward to seeing how this turns out 🙂
Mater’s Tall Tales: The Movie
is basically all I see in this.
I agree with anon.
The descriptions here make this sound like a good, episodic story for a Cars video game, rather than a movie. I can see the potential for a lot of fun here, but to be perfectly honest this is easily the least excited I’ve been for any Pixar film.
The plot does sound somewhat mediocre, but I’ve thought that about Pixar films before and been proven wrong. Pixar has given me no reason to doubt them, so I’m not going to. We’ll just have to see.
Slightly concerned at the lack of mention of Sally…I think there definitely could be a case of ‘too much mater’- sure he’s a loveable character, but there’s only so many times his mishaps & poorly pronounced words can be found funny.
