Monsters, Inc. Blu-ray Monstrously Delayed?!

A Bug's Life, Blu-Ray, Monsters, Inc.

Posted by Martin • March 13, 2009

In more "delay" news, The Pixar Blog has gotten a tip that the Monsters, Inc. Blu-ray release, planned for this Spring, has been pushed up all the way to the Spring of 2010 (some are reporting November ’09)!!

This shocking news was discovered via a few sites such as HDRoom as well as an e-mail from
Retailers have been getting rid of promotions and pre-orders of the release due to orders from Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment, which is surprising since the news of this particular Blu-ray has been circulating quite a bit. This brings up the question: why? I got no comment from Disney or Pixar, maybe they want to do this very quietly. Could it be a glitch, a new short planned for the release, a new promotion, maybe they wanted the Blu-ay market to grow some more, or did marketing think that Monsters would take business away from Bug’s, we’ll have to wait ‘til next year to find out…

Apparently, the May 19th release date for the A Bug’s Life Blu-ray has not been changed. Learn more about the two releases here and enjoy the cover art, one of which we won’t see in a long time.

How does this surprise announcement make you feel? Why do you think WDSHE decided to do this?

I have to say I’m extremely excited for A Bug’s Life: The First Draft, an animated version of A Bug’s Life’s first storyboards!! The roundtables also sound awesome, it’ll be great to hear the filmmakers perspective after many years of release, in A Bug’s Life’s case 10! Speaking of, I think that the "Bug’s" release should have the 10th Anniversary mentioned somehwere and maybe the Monsters, Inc. cover would benefit from some Boo action, maybe a shadow…

The movies will be packaged with 2-discs with an added DisneyFile Digital Copy for iTunes or Windows Media Player. The feature film will be presented in 1080p, the best HD quality possible. You can pre-order them on Amazon now, click on the titles above for links.

A Bug's Life, Blu-Ray, Monsters, Inc., WALL-E

Posted by Upcoming Pixar • January 7, 2009

Pixar’s classic tales A Bug’s Life (1998) and Monsters, Inc. (2001) will be released back-to-back on Blu-ray presumably in Spring of this year.

The long circulating rumor has now been confirmed by Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment in an announcement of their future releases from February to October of this new year. Monsters and ABL will both include a digital copy for viewing on an iPod and will likely feature some sort of new content. An announcement featuring specific details on the two afformentioned releases are expected late this Winter. What a great marketing strategy, think about it: Disney•Pixar’s Up, from the director of Monsters, Inc. (now on Blu-ray)!
Unfortunately, there was no announcement of the long awaited Finding Nemo Blu-ray which has had changing release dates for the past year or two.

Speaking of Blu-rays, IGN has named WALL•E the best BD of the year! Read what they had to say here.

A Bug’s Life 10th Anniversary

A Bug's Life

Posted by Martin • November 25, 2008

Today marks an important moment in Pixar history with the 10th anniversary of A Bug’s Life!

Pixar’s second film, is what assured the company that they weren’t a one-time hit, they were here to stay. Many of you have been asking why A Bug’s Life isn’t appreciated as much as Pixar’s other films. It could be because it was released between the two Toy Story films, or because it was "over-shadowed" by megahits like Monsters, Inc., Finding Nemo, and The Incredibles. Whatever reason, today is the day to appreciate it’s legacy.

Congratulations on 10 years of A Bug’s Life to everyone at Pixar!

* You can celebrate other anniversaries for Pixar films and  Pixar related events on the Pixar Planet forums, milestones will be posted here.

John Lasseter in Bee Movie?

A Bug's Life, Animation, John Lasseter

Posted by Thomas • April 29, 2008

Jim Hill takes a look at a potential stab at John Lasseter at the end (pictured) of Jerry Seinfeld’s Dreamwork’s flick, Bee Movie

Hill says that this came about after a chat between Lasseter and Seinfeld at Vanity Fair’s 2006 Oscar Party. The story goes that the topic of Antz/A Bug’s Life came up and how purportedly, Jeffery Katzenberg "stole" the idea from Pixar. The conversation then ended with Lasseter warning Seinfeld about Katzenberg. Now Seinfeld took a little offense to this, as he now considers Katzenberg a close friend after working for quite a few years getting Bee Movie made. Seinfeld then made the efforts to get this little part put into the ending of the movie.
Head on over to Jim Hill Media for the full details.
