George Lucas to Present Pixar Team Golden Lion Award

Andrew Stanton Awards Brad Bird John Lasseter Lee Unkrich News Pete Docter

Early in 2009 we got an announcement that an elite group of Pixarians: Lasseter, Stanton, Docter, Bird and Unkrich, would be receiving a Golden Lion Award during the 66th Annual Venice Film Festival.

It has just been reported that George Lucas will be presenting this award to the five deserving recipients at the September 2nd-12th event. Since the prize is given to those who have contributed largely to cinema, Lucas might just be the perfect person to present it. As most fans know, the Lucasfilm pioneer has a rich history with Pixar, with the Computer Division of the aforementioned company evolving into today’s world renowned animation studio.

There will be lots to celebrate at the event like the premiere of Toy Story and Toy Story 2 in 3D Double Feature on September 6th. The next day festival goers can attend a master class by the Pixarians, basically it’s a learning experience for young animators who want to know how the magic happens.

The award itself will be presented on September 6th. Learn more at the Venice International Film Festival’s official website.
