The LA Times reports that Sigourney Weaver will play WALL•E‘s equivalent of 2001: A Space Odyssey’s HAL-9000. Weaver is set to appear in the film as the voice of presumably, the Axiom’s main computer
"I think it was given to me because Andrew Stanton loves science fiction and is such a fan of the ‘Alien’ movies," says Weaver. "And he thought it would be funny after having such an important computer mother in ‘Alien,’ if I played the ship’s computer. I’m playing such a small part, but it’s such a great movie to be a part of, I’d play the wastebasket."
says the article. Weaver is one of the few human voices in the film, along with Jeff Garlin as "The Captain". Fred Willard is set to appear in full live-action form come June 27.

So pumped for Wall-E. Pixar + Science Fiction = Epic win.
I hope the Axiom isn’t as creepy as HAL.
Good to know that Weaver has a back-up career doing voice work for animated spaceships. She was the voice of the sentient Planet Express ship in an episode of Futurama too.
