Another Up featurette has been released today, this time profiling Dug, the "Pixar style" talking dog!
In the tradition of such clips as Kevin: The Undiscovered Species and Meet Russell, Dug The Talking Dog features director Pete Docter and producer Jonas Rivera talking about the character’s dynamics, development and inspiration. Bob Peterson, co-director of Up and the voice of Dug, also gives us his point of view on the already memorable retriever and even samples his hilarious (and versatile) voice. Watch the video, with tons of new clips from Up, embedded below:

I’m not really a dog person, but Dug is so cute, and Bob Peterson does an excellent job with voice acting, from what I’ve seen so far.
I think Dug is pretty overrated. He’s probably my least favorite Up character, but I still like him. I love how his sentences are really “boxy” (ie. no apostrophes or shorthands or anything like that), which shows that’s he’s using a translator and he’s not just saying things.
I love how strict the policy of “attention to detail” is exercised at the studio. Although I’ve never owned a dog, it’s easy and fun to pin-point the various canine-like mannerisms that were incorporated into Dug’s personality — it makes him all the more believable and amusing as a character.
The action sequences are absolutely gorgeous, by the way. Heh. Poor Russell is swinging all over the place. I want to see this film, dang it.
Thanks for the information, martini!
haha, talking dog- Pixar style
Question for Bryko614- have you seen UP? If so, and you still think Dug is overrated, I respect that. But if you have not seen the film, how can you judge? I’ve seen it and he’s far more likable (in my opinion) in the completed film than in the few second of footage we see in trailers. Just sayin’.
