Luxo Jr. Jumps the Pacific

The Luxo Jr. lamp and ball that featured outside of the Pixar: 20 Years of Animation Exhibit at ACMI in Melbourne, Australia, has traversed the length of the Pacific ocean to outside Pixar HQ in Emeryville, California, USA.

The giant Luxo lamp was manufactured in Melbourne to mark the Australian presentation of the international exhibition, Pixar: 20 Years of Animation, and was today handed over by ACMI Director, Tony Sweeney, to Pixar Animation Studios Chief Creative Officer, John Lasseter and President, Dr Ed Catmull.

The giant Lamp is 6.5m tall, made of steel and fibreglass and is lit by 18 energy efficient fluorescent light bulbs.

"We had a wonderful experience working with the extraordinary team at ACMI, who took an exhibition of our original artwork, treated it with love, care and respect and presented it in a way that far exceeded our very high expectations," said John Lasseter. "It was a fantastically successful collaboration between two like-minded organisations and now we have Luxo Jr as a lasting legacy of a relationship that we look forward to growing positively into the future".
