The latest addition to the cast of Cars 2, Jeff Gorvette, makes his big debut on the car aficionado website, Autoblog!
If the name sounds somewhat familiar, it’s because the character will be voiced by NASCAR superstar, Jeff Gordon. Instead of serving as a simple cameo, Gorvette will pursue an active role as a serious contender in the World Grand Prix.
Official Description: "Jeff Gorvette is one of the greatest American racecars alive today. Donning the stars and stripes of his country’s flag, the #24 Corvette C6.R has proven his ability to succeed on the big ovals and the road courses of the Grand Touring Sports circuits. Having moved from his hometown of Vallejo, California to Indiana to be closer to the racing world, Gorvette’s ability to accelerate at such a young age has turned hoods wherever he competes. His championships and number of victories are unmatched, making him a respected competitor-and legitimate threat-at the World Grand Prix."
Turntable Video:
Darrell Walltrip returns as the voice of car-announcer, Darrell Cartrip.
Official Description: "Darrell Cartrip is a legendary multi-Piston Cup champion turned beloved racing announcer. The Kentucky-born #17 Chevrolet Monte Carlo is known for his wild color commentary, delighting Piston Cup fans with his humor, charisma and signature catch phrases-"Boogity, Boogity, Boogity! Let’s go racin’ boys!" He’s spent years on the track, in the pits and in the grease, and he’ll tell you all about it. This American Southern gentleman knows what it takes to win, and plans to bring that fervent expertise to calling the World Grand Prix."

I laughed when I read Jeff’s bio because it mirrors the real Jeff Gordon. Clever, Pixar, clever.

Ehhhhhh, I don’t know how I feel about PIXAR choosing a celebrity voice actor for a character, simply because he’s from NASCAR. To me that’s sort of going into Dreamworks territory like using Jackie Chan go to do the voice of Monkey in KFP. Well, at any rate I’m giving them the benefit of the doubt so I hope they did choose him for more than racing celebrity status.
Darrel Cartrip sounds cool, but really “Boogity”? When was the last time you ever heard a southerner say “Boogity” as a catchphrase?
As a huge JG fan, I’m super excited to see him in the movie. I love that they included Jeff’s real bio into the character back story.
Hopefully he’ll also be a playable character in the video game.
And it continues what the original Cars did of including real life racers as characters. Richard Petty as The King, Humpy Wheeler (famous track promoter) was Tex, Dale Earnhardt Jr, Mario Andretti, and Michael Schumacher were themselves.
Darrell Waltrip’s trademark line for the start of every race is “Boogity, boogity, boogity”. He’s a character, for sure.
@ Pixar Builder :
Its pretty normal Pixar uses a celebrity voice for a character in Cars 2. They did that a lot in the first Cars film.
But if you don’t like Jeff Gordon, well don’t worry because its very probable Lewis Hamilton also will appear, and that one, he does not race at NASCAR…
