Pixar at SIGGRAPH '09

Convention News Pixar Toy Story Toy Story 2 UP

For over 20 years now, Pixar has been attending the SIGGRAPH conference. 2009 is no different and once again they’re one of the main events!

The world famous computer graphics exhibition will be held in New Orleans, Louisiana this year at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center from August 3rd to August 7th. If you’re planning to attend, remember not to bring your portfolio to the Pixar booth because they won’t be taking it there. You’ll also want to pick up one of Pixar’s famous walking teapots!

Representing the studio prominently will be animator/director Peter Sohn and 3D Supervisor Bob Whitehill among others. Sohn will have a talk about his directorial debut and how he got his vision on film. This presentation is followed by a screening of Partly Cloudy. Learn more about the August 4th event here. As one of the main presenters, Whitehill will be talking about how Pixar implements stereoscopic 3D into their movies without making it feel gimmicky. Alongside the presentations will be 3D screenings of Pixar shorts and clips from features such as Toy Story.  Learn more about the August 6th event here.

Those are just a few among a long list of events including camera, simulation and animation related talks from Pixarians. To learn more about SIGGRAPH check out the official site. If you do attend, drop us a line and don’t forget to pass along those pictures!
