It’s a well known fact that Pixar has had 10 consecutive box-office hits out of its 10 feature productions. So, isn’t it time they were recognized for it?
I’m not trying to sound like the press coverage, Oscars, and countless other industry awards are meaningless, they’re still very important. But this kind of a record is not very common in Hollywood so a physical trophy wouldn’t hurt!
Fortunately, the folks over at ShoWest (the same convention where Toy Story 3 will be screened three months in advance) have the perfect prize to remedy that! The Big Ten Award is handed to studios which have garnered 10 financial hits in-a-row, a legendary status especially if the record starts with your first ever feature!
Variety is reporting that the Lamp is the next Big Ten recipient and will receive the award at the March convention in Las Vegas! No word on exactly when or who will actually be presented with the honor. My bet is on Lee Unkrich whose upcoming film hasn’t gotten the financial naysayers buzzing yet, and for good reason.
Now where’s the award for 10 consecutive critical hits? I guess there can’t be any because that’s virtually unheard of in Hollywood! Let’s hope Toy Story 3 continues that winning streak…
