Animation Tops Time's 10 Best Films of 2009

News UP

TIME‘s Richard Corliss really, really loves animation — especially this year which, I agree, "boasted a richer crop of animated features than of live-action movies."

That’s why the magazine’s Top 10 Movies of 2009 gives its highest honors to three animated films in 3 different mediums. Proudly boasting the top spots are The Princess and the Frog, Up and Fantastic Mr. Fox! Ok, so maybe Up didn’t get the #1 pick, but second is still a great honor for this "prime Pixar achievement"! Besides, WDAS deserves their time in the spotlight after all these years trailing behind their sister studio.

That said, I still can’t judge The Princess and the Frog because I haven’t seen it yet. I’m very excited to experience the "bayou full of winning characters" in theatres tonight! It’s especially exciting that TPatF is Disney’s first traditionally-animated feature in over half a decade. Let’s hope directors John Musker and Ron Clements alongside executive producer John Lasseter imagined up another winner!

Anyway, here’s the list of Top 10 Movies in order according to Time Magazine: The Princess and the Frog, Up, Fantastic Mr. Fox, The Hurt Locker, Up in the Air, The White Ribbon, A Single Man, Of Time and the City, District 9, and Thirst.

Remember, TIME has a Top 10 for just about everything, check out the rest of the lists for 2009, right here.
