With its final release in Japan today, Up has now completed its worldwide rollout!
Dubbed "Grandpa Carl’s Flying House", the movie technically opened yesterday due to time differences but nonetheless it’s still an occasion to celebrate! Japan is a great territory for Pixar openings because of large attendance which add a considerable chunk to the $600+ mil. box office take. So it’s a shame Up had to open on December 5th, over 5 months after the initial US release. Rest assured there are sane marketing tactics behind it.
Anyway, Hayao Miyazaki and other Japanese personalities have been making the rounds alongside Pete Docter and co. to promote the film; that would be the JP poster to the top right. In celebration of today’s momentous opening, here’s a clip (half Japanese/half English) from one of their TV specials:
I know we have a few Japanese readers here at UP, hopefully you guys enjoyed the film in your domestic theatres! I’m sure the (long) wait payed off!

Fantastic! Exhillerating! Stupendous! I may not be Japanese but today has been really exciting for me. 🙂 I hope the Japanese crowd will be pleasantly surprised by the movie — I’ve already seen some Japanese fan art pop up, even. Have any clips of the film itself in the Japanese language been uploaded somewhere? I’m intrigued by watching American animation dubbed in other languages (I watched Up in French the other day).

Haha, it’s so strange seeing ENGLISH with JAPANESE subtitles when I watch so much anime the other way around. xD
